The world has a total solar eclipse.
The image is copyrighted by the Inst. of Physics in Opava.
There was a total solar eclipse yesterday. airplanes flew below the Southern Ocean to capture the phenomenon. The sun's outer corona is seen as the dark spot in the center in the featured image, which was taken during the eclipse. A wing and engine of the airplane can be seen across the left and bottom of the image, while another airplane can be seen on the far left. A shadow cone is the dark area of the sky surrounding the Sun. It is dark because you can see a long corridor of air shadowed by the Moon. The planet Mercury can be found just to the right of the Sun. The next total solar eclipse shadow will cross parts of Australia and Indonesia in April of 2023, followed by the one after that in April of 2024.

There is an unusual spot on the Moon. It's the International Space Station. The Earth-orbiting space platform was photographed in front of a partially lit gibbous Moon last month. A video of the International Space Station crossing the Moon was used to create the featured composite, which was taken in Arizona last month. The outlines of solar panels and trusses can be seen in a close inspection of this crisp silhouette. The bright crater Tycho can be seen on the upper left, as well as the relatively rough, light colored terrain known as highlands, and the dark colored areas known as maria. The International Space Station can be seen from your area.
