The title eliminator was a battle from the beginning. Adames was buzzed in Round 5 and Derevyanchenko unloaded, but no knockdown came close to materializing. Both boxers ignored defense in the 160-pound bout. It's no surprise that Derevyanchenko is one of the most reliable action fighters in the sport.
He faded down the stretch. Adames was released by Top Rank after he lost a 154-pound fight. Adames is at 160 pounds and has a new life.
Adames, who hails from the Dominican Republic, is in line to fight Munguia next year for the right to challenge Jermall Charlo for a title.
