Gardner Minshew may have had Top Gun on the brain, but he needs to operate the Eagles like a 747 today

America's favorite quarterback is returning to the field today. For the first time since the 14th of the 2020 season, the Philadelphia Eagles will have a new starting quarterback.

Minshew had to wear something special for his first start in nearly a year. He arrived at the stadium with his trademark sunglasses, but he also wore a bomber jacket. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said on his account that the jacket gave off serious Top Gun vibes.

If Minshew wanted to bring out the Minshew mania, he needed to go with the jorts, otherwise the outfit was complete. The Eagles are hoping for just enough Minshew Magic from their backup quarterback to get them through this week without Hurts.

The Eagles are only a half game out of the playoffs, and the Washington Football Team is the seventh seed in the playoffs. The division rivals have yet to play each other this season. The Eagles have a bye next week, but they will be playing the New York Jets this week, a team they have not lost to in their history.

The Eagles are in a better position going down the stretch if they are under.500 in December. If Maddening Minshew shows up today, that positioning doesn't mean anything. He completed more than 50 percent of his passes once, averaged more than seven yards per attempt once, and lost two turnovers in his last four starts.

What Minshew has to do today is to keep the Eagles in prime position and get the team through a week with an injured starter. The Eagles don't need him out there. Minshew needs to operate like a commercial pilot and stay in the locker room. Minshew needs to navigate whatever turbulence comes his way, and make sure the Eagles have a smooth ride.
