Notre Dame and Oklahoma State both wanted to play in the College Football Playoff, but instead they will face each other in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day.

The fifth-ranked Fighting Irish and new head coach Marcus Freeman were left on the outside looking in at the playoffs, while the Cowboys' attempt to get into the semifinals came up just short.

Oklahoma State's title chances were buried by Baylor. The Bears will play in the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss. The Rebels finished third in the SEC.

The Rose Bowl will be the site of Ohio State's loss to Michigan two weeks ago. Utah is waiting for the UM in Pasadena, which is waiting for the first conference title since joining the conference.

Michigan State will play Pittsburgh in the Peach Bowl. The Spartans lost two of their last four games after handing Michigan its lone loss of the season. Pitt has been held below 30 points just twice this season and scored 45 on Wake Forest in the conference championship game.

The bowl games will be shown on the sports network.
