Carolina Panthers fire offensive coordinator Joe Brady with team sitting at 5-7

The team announced on Sunday that Joe Brady had been fired with five games left in the season.

Matt Rhule said in a statement that he met with Brady on Sunday morning and informed him that he had decided to make a change.

Rhule said she was grateful for his time and effort in helping them get established.

The rest of the offensive coaching staff will take over for the remainder of the season, with senior offensive assistant Jeff Nixon taking over.

The bye for the panthers is this week.

Rhule said in October that he wanted Brady to commit more to the running game. Rhule preferred at least 30 attempts per game for the running game to be committed to by Brady.

The team started the season with three wins and is now 4-7. The team has started three different quarterbacks this season, while star running back Christian McCaffrey is out with an ankle injury. Sam Darnold was on injured reserve with a shoulder injury after a rocky start. In his second stint with the franchise, CamNewton is now starting at quarterback.

Brady joined the panthers in January 2020 after working for LSU as the passing game coach.
