Former Senator Bob Dole, longtime Republican leader, dies at 98



Bob Dole, the former Senate majority leader, attended a ceremony to welcome the new Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Army General Mark Milley.

The Elizabeth Dole Foundation said that Bob Dole died on Sunday morning at the age of 98.

Dole was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and said he was starting treatment.

Dole started his political career as a senator for Kansas. He was Gerald Ford's vice presidential nominee. He began to think about running for president in 1980. He lost the presidency to Bill Clinton in 1996.

Dole was seriously injured in World War II and served in the army. His Senate biography states that he spent years at a military hospital.
