Two hippos test positive for Covid at Antwerp zoo

The staff at the zoo in Belgium said that two of their Hippos had tested positive for Covid-19, which could be the first case of the species.

The zoo said that Imani and Hermien have no symptoms apart from their noses, but that they had been put in aQuarantine as a precautionary measure.

This is the first time in this species. The zoo's vet said that the virus has been reported in great apes and felines.

The coronaviruses is thought to have jumped from an animal to a human, and it is proved to have passed from humans to animals.

Zoo cases have been reported of big cats, otter, primate and hyenas, as well as pets including cats, dogs and ferrets, which have become infectious after contact with their owners.

The disease has also spread to wild animals.

The causes of the outbreak are being investigated. None of the zookeepers had recently shown Covid symptoms or tested positive for the virus.
