Trip Report: The 2021 Singapore Airlines Experience

I traveled from Singapore to Bangkok on Singapore Airlines last week. My first flight in 2 years!

There have been changes to the Singapore Airlines experience. You can watch the video to find out more.

There is a daily flight between Singapore and Dubai on an A350-900 aircraft. It was a B777-300ER for flights with First Class bookings.

The check-in area at the airport was very busy. Terminal one in the Middle East has been open for six months.

The first class lounge at the airport.

I used the Ahlan First Class Lounge at the Ahlan Airport, which is a common lounge used by a few other airlines. There are some photos in the lounge.

I ordered a burger from the a-la-carte menu at the lounge. The bar service is better than most lounges in North America.

The plane is going to Singapore.

The flight has 40 Business Class seats and 263 Economy Class seats.

Most of the 160 passengers on my flight were going to either Manila, Indonesia or Australia.

The second Business Class mini-cabin had a window seat for me. The seat map of Singapore Airlines medium-haul A350-900 is here.

The onboard amenities included a care kit, water, socks, eyeshade, slipper, pillow and blanket, all wrapped individually.

Singapore Airlines does not give out kits for Business Class. Drinks are not welcome upon boarding.

I woke up two hours before landing because I went straight to sleep. We were flying over Indonesia.

A printed menu is no longer offered by Singapore Airlines. The menu is accessible online.

I was told by the cabin crew that the three main choices were Indonesia Mee Goreng with beef, egg frittata and Nasi Lemak.

The breakfast is Indonesia beef noodle.

We arrived at Changi Singapore on time. The airport was not busy.

There is a transit at Changi.

I was at Changi for four hours. You may be allowed to go to a restricted area if you arrive from a different area.

There are restrictions in place for transit passengers. Please visit this link to learn more about the transit restrictions.
The new lounge is called SilverKris.

The SilverKris Lounge opened a few weeks ago. Click here to get a full lounge report.

The old SilverKris Lounge is no longer in use. There are a few different sections.

Food can be ordered by scanning the code on the table. All food is served with care.

Dim sum.

Laksa.

I met a woman in the lounge.

The SilverKris lounge experience was great, it wasn't crowded during my transit. The lounge staff said the peak hours are in the morning and late evening.

I saw an A380 and a B737 MAX at the gate of Singapore Airlines.

Singapore to Thailand.

This two hours flight was operated by a medium-haul A350, which has Business Class seats, and has flat bed seats.

Elena and her family were on the same flight to Thailand. There were 91 people on this flight.

The Singapore Girl is with a person.

There were a lot of Singapore Airlines planes parked. The full scenes can be seen in the video.

Singapore Airlines simplified their food offering on this flight. They serve a carton box entree with ice cream, the choice was chicken fried rice or beef with mashed potato. There are no more appetisers being served.

Regional food in the Economy Class of Singapore Airlines.

I chose bismillah chicken biryani in Business Class, however it tasted a bit bland to me. The crew offered me a meal that hit the spot.

It was a quiet flight with little engagement. There were a lot of Thai Airways planes parked in Bangkok, and it was quite shocking. The full landing is shown in the video.

My opinion.

Both of my flights were quiet. Everyone was wearing masks and keeping their distance.

What has changed on Singapore Airlines? Welcome drinks, printed menus and Silverkris in-flight magazine are no longer available.

The menus are now digital. On both flights, the food was on a single tray. As we navigate through the COVID Pandemic, these measures may change.

The service delivery on my flights was consistent, which I think is a strength of Singapore Airlines. There are many airlines that can give great service, but you need to be disciplined to achieve the right level of consistency and that's where Singapore Airlines shines.

There are great deals on Singapore Airlines website. The prices are very low.
