Michigan school shooting suspect said he was designing a video game after teacher found handgun drawing that said 'the thoughts won't stop, help me,' school says

The suspect in the Michigan school shooting said he was designing a video game after the teacher found a handgun drawing.

A police vehicle is parked outside of Oxford High School on December 1, 2021.

Prosecutors said that a teacher saw disturbing notes written by the shooting suspect.

They said the drawings included a gun, a bullet, and a person with gunshot wounds.

The school said Saturday that the drawings were for a video game.

The suspect in the Oxford High School shooting told school counselors disturbing drawings and notes he made were for a video game, according to a letter sent by school officials and obtained by ABC News.

At a news conference on Friday, Karen McDonald said a teacher spotted drawings on the desk of the sole suspect in the shooting that left four students dead. The teacher took a photo of the note and reported it to the school.

The drawing of a semiautomatic handgun was included in the note. McDonald asked for help. There was a drawing of a person with gunshot wounds who was bleeding, as well as a drawing of a bullet and the words "blood everywhere."

McDonald said there was a drawing of a laughing emoji and the words "My life is useless" and "The world is dead."

The Crumbley's parents were called into the school after the note was found, prosecutors said.

McDonald said that the couple refused to bring their son home for the day because they were told he needed to get counseling.

Before the shooting occurred, Crumbley returned to a classroom. It's not clear if he had the gun in his backpack or somewhere else.

On Saturday, Tim Throne, Oxford Community Schools Supt., sent a letter to the school community with more information about the Tuesday morning meeting. According to the letter, Crumbley told the school guidance counselors that he wanted to be a video game designer and that the drawings were for a game he was creating.

According to Throne, the student's behavior, responses, and demeanor appeared calm, and no one believed he would harm others. He said that at no point in the meeting did the Crumbleys say the boy was a threat.

Throne said that the student's parents never told the school district that he had access to a firearm or that they had recently purchased a firearm for him.

The prosecutor said that the Crumbleys refused to take their son home from school despite being asked to.

The Crumbleys have been charged with four counts of manslaughter. They were arrested early Saturday morning after a lengthy search when they failed to appear in court.

They pleaded not guilty.

Throne and Oxford Principal Steven Wolf did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.
