Mitch McConnell would eliminate the filibuster if he was in Democrats' shoes, Jim Acosta says

CNN correspondent Jim Acosta said Saturday that Democrats have been out-maneuvered by US Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell, an architect of a conservative-leaning Supreme Court, that appears open to uphold a 15-week Mississippi abortion ban in a major case that would gut the Supreme Court's 1973 decision

What would McConnell do if he were in their shoes? "Acosta said that." Would he let the filibuster stand? Is the filibuster more important than women's rights? Is it more important than the lives of our teenagers?

The electoral college gave Trump the presidency, as well as the opportunity to nominate three Supreme Court justices during his term, according to the segment.

McConnell's strategy to pack the court with conservative justices was recounted by him. Four years later, McConnell would lead the vote to fill the seat on the court, even though he insisted that it couldn't be done during an election year.

Even though Americans have largely chosen Democrats for the presidency over the last three decades, a new hard-right Supreme Court appears poised to turn back the clock. This has created a scenario where minority views on hot-button issues could carry the day for a generation.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor warned earlier this week that the court would create a "stench in Washington" if it overturned the abortion law.

Will this institution survive the public perception that the Constitution is just a political act? "I don't see how it is possible," she said. How will we survive if people think it's all political? How will the court survive?

The Mississippi case will be decided by the court in June of next year. At least 12 states will impose near-total bans on abortion if the Supreme Court overturns Wade.
