CNN fires Chris Cuomo

CNN said it retained a respected law firm to conduct a review of the situation after more information came to light.

The network said that they would investigate despite the fact that they had terminated.

The Cuomo family has a long history of being politically powerful, with Mario Cuomo serving as New York's governor for three terms in the 1980s and '90s. Andrew Cuomo stepped down in August of 2021.

He said that the best way to help was if he stepped aside and let the government get back to governing.

Chris Cuomo contracted Covid in 2020 and continued to broadcast as he recovered from the illness. He first interviewed his brother on CNN as New York grappled with the Pandemic, drawing criticism over a potential conflict of interest. The network came under fire for its handling of Chris Cuomo's anchorship after the Andrew Cuomo allegations came to light.

Brian Stelter, CNN's chief media correspondent, suggested on-air that Chris Cuomo might return within a month. He was described as being on the bench by his brother.

Chris Cuomo was in the virtual war room trying to defend his brother in ways that were journalistically improper. We don't know what that is, we just know that there was additional information that came to light from the law firm's investigation. The newsroom does not know what that is and nobody else does either.

Chris Cuomo was a larger than life presence on this network and there's going to be a lot of feelings in the days to come.

Chris Cuomo co-hosted a morning show at CNN before he started hosting "Cuomo Prime Time". He was a correspondent at ABC and Fox. He was embedded in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq while covering the war on terror.
