Chris Cuomo, CNN's highest-rated prime time anchor, was fired after he supported his brother, the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo took part in strategy calls as he battled sexual harassment allegations.

Zucker sent a message to employees late Saturday. Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defense. We terminated the law firm that was hired to conduct the review immediately. Additional information has come to light during the review. We will investigate despite the fact that we have terminated our contract.

The network was under pressure to act more forcefully with Cuomo, who had put his brother over CNN's reputation by working in support of his brother.

Cuomo said on his radio show that CNN had a process that was important. I respect the process.

The future of Cuomo was thrown into question last week, after the release of thousands of pages of documents by New York attorney general Letitia James. CNN has reported that Chris Cuomo was working as an aide to the governor while he was a CNN anchor.

A report Saturday by the network's Brian Stelter concluded that text messages obtained by James' office conveyed the cozy and improper nature of the relationship. Chris Cuomo tried to use his connections in the press to help prepare Andrew Cuomo's team as accusers started to make their stories public, according to the texts between the anchor and several aides and allies of the governor.
