The highest peaks of Hawaii spent the weekend under a blizzard warning, while record rainfall drenched the Pacific Northwest, and warm temperatures stretched across the Midwest and South.

The warning for a storm in Hawaii was first issued on Thursday. According to the forecast by the Weather Center, there was a chance of snow on Saturday and Monday.

The weather center wrote that fog, ice and snow were to plague the summit after a large storm system off the coast of Hawaii.

It's not unusual to see snow on Hawaii's tallest peaks. A storm warning was last issued in the state.

The National Weather Service says that it is notable for the Pacific island state to see a warning before most of the continental U.S.

Alaska, the high plains of Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota, and a small portion of western Minnesota are the only places in the country that have seen warnings about the weather so far this year.

The first few days of December felt like October or even September in many places, with temperatures topping 80 degrees in parts of Georgia, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Arkansas and North Carolina.

The weather forecast office in Boulder said that Denver had smashed the record for the first measurable snow of the season. The previous date was in 1934.

The Pacific Northwest has been drenched by more rain than normal. The old record for most rain in meteorological fall in Bellingham was shattered by more than 6 inches. The risk of mudslides increases with the rain.

Seattle's new meteorological fall rain record is impressive in its own right, but pales in comparison to the amount of rain that fell in 90 days over parts of the Olympics and Cascades.

A winter storm is expected to hit the upper Midwest this weekend, bringing heavy snow to North Dakota, northern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

La Nia, a Pacific Ocean climate pattern that happens every few years, is part of the reason for the weather weirdness. La Nia makes winters in the northern US and Canada cooler and warmer than in the southern US.

Climate change is making extreme weather events more frequent and severe.
