'Fortnite' Chapter 2 ends with a slain queen and Dwayne Johnson saving the day

It felt like I had to watch it on Dec. 4 at 4:00 p.m. The eighth and final season of Chapter 2 marked a new phase for the ongoing story. I wasn't disappointed.

The conclusion of the first season of the battle royale mode was a blockbuster event that players watched as the island got sucked into a black hole. The game went dark at that point, but came back online a day and a half later with a brand new island and a new story to tell.

No one is under any illusions that the game is offline again after the conclusion of Chapter 2. In a world where the black hole marked the end of the game forever, now players can feel confident that the downtime is temporary, and that the stage for some big changes is set.

The changes will have to wait for another day as they aren't sharing details just yet. The Season 8-capping event gives us a lot to talk about.

The event began by dropping all players at the distant outskirts of a central map location. The opening section of the event gave everyone with guns and a lot of money to take on the many and deadly forces of the Cube Queen, who was the Season 8's chief antagonist.

After a few minutes of fighting against the Queen's forces, the event shifted over to an extended scene in which a captive Agent Jones is about to be executed by Doctor Slone, another key player in the ongoing story. But that's when the writers from the company threw a wrench in her plans. A rock.

Yes, the actor has joined the cast of the game. He was introduced as a mysterious armored figure known as The Foundation in the finale of Season 8. Jones is saved by The Foundation. He is leading the charge against the Queen, with a plan to flip over the entire island of battle Royale onto her head.

That's what happened. We ended up back in the ocean with the island in the middle of the ocean, after we escaped through a crumbling underground facility and followed one of Foundation's allies. A massive wave swept across the screen swallowing everyone as the island finished its somersault.

The event ended there. The game is offline as of 4:30 p.m. On December 4, 2021. It will be back online by the end of the weekend. Whatever's next for the battle Royale will be waiting when it returns. Expect a new island and some changes to the way the game plays if it's anything like the shift from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2. He has a fancy sci-fi pistol that The Foundation seems to want at one point. It would be great to play with that thing.

We don't know for sure until the game is back. If you open the game, you'll see a bird's eye view of an endless oceanscape, and a small figure in the middle floating on a piece of driftwood. As the event came to a close, the account started streaming that view live on the micro-blogging site as part of an effort to reveal the next chapter.
