Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, John Mulaney, and Jim Gaffigan are some of the comedians whose works have been pulled by Spotify due to a royalties dispute. A number of high-profile entertainers are pursuing royalty payments for their jokes when they are played on the radio, as well as on services like Spotify, and YouTube, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Hundreds of comedians' content was removed from the service after failed negotiations.

The comics are supported by a global rights administration company, which works to ensure that entertainers are properly compensated for spoken-word content. The WSJ notes that comedians are paid by their label or distributor when a digital service plays their content. They aren't compensated for writing that content, something that Spoken Giants hopes to change.

Hundreds of comedians' content was removed from the service after failed negotiations. In a statement to the WSJ, the company said that it already paid a lot of money for the content. The Verge asked for a comment from Spotify but didn't hear back.

There is no word on whether or not the comedians will ever return to their original content. The comedians may be missing out on a lot of visibility because of the expected 400 million users of Spotify by the end of the year.
