For the majority of their marriage, the Ertzs didn't know what it was like to be a married couple.

They both played for the Arizona Cardinals and the U.S. women's national team, but their careers kept them apart. They would have a month here, a couple of weeks there and maybe a weekend in between. They were in a long-distance relationship despite being married. They depended on their phones to stay connected, sometimes FaceTiming six or seven times a day.

"We joked that we had a relationship with our phones because we don't think it would make it easier if we weren't together," she said.

They saw each other for 84 days.

"We've been doing this for a long time," he said. We've gotten good at it.

The Ertzes were together for the first time since they met at a Bay Area university when the COVID-19 Pandemic struck the world in March 2020.

Here's how the playoffs looks at the moment and what might happen in the future.

Their life together the past two years has mostly consisted of training together, rehabbing injuries together, and a cross-country move after the trade of Zach to the ArizonaCardinals. For the first time in their relationship, the sense of anxiety they each experienced when the other left for an extended time to join their team only happened once, when Julie reported to the Chicago Red Stars for the start of training camp February 1. She tore her MCL in the season opener.

On Sunday, Julie will be in Chicago to see the Bears play the Cards. She played there for seven years. She'll do it because life has changed for both of them. Mostly for the better.

It's not weird. Julie said it was great to spend more time together. I don't get annoyed with him, I think people are shocked by that. I'm fine sitting in a room with him, and I feel like that's when you know you're comfortable. I don't need to talk all the time.

The couple have been together for a long time and have been able to enjoy being married.

It was a glimpse into what life would be like when one of us was done playing.

Everything is a competition.

Julie Ertz played for the Bears for seven years and will be in Chicago on Sunday to watch the game between the Bears and the ArizonaCardinals. She'll do it because life has changed for both of them.

Within a couple of weeks of quarantining with each other in 2020, Julie andZach realized they needed a workout routine.

They've always been athletic, but never in an off-season setting. Their seasons were usually opposite. They were able to push each other despite not doing many of the same exercises, because they found parks around Philadelphia to work out in.

Julie said they work out a lot. It's kind of rude.

They just wanted to be together.

They showed each other a new thing despite the differences in training.

Julie loves to run on vacations. He hates it.

"I don't understand how someone can run on a treadmill for an hour," he said.

Each of Tom Brady's Super Bowl appearances has been given a first-hand account. Man in the Arena: Tom Brady will be broadcasted on the Disney Channel.

They worked on their speed together, even though they were racing each other, and even though they were doing core stability exercises.

He started incorporating soccer into his warm-up by dribbling a ball the length of the field. He was asked to kick passes to her. It didn't always go as planned.

He said he would get yelled at. She holds me to such a high standard and she'll belittle me if my passes aren't as accurate as they need to be because my soccer skills aren't up to national team level. I try my best.

There's a competitive nature between them. Nothing is spared.

They had to start tracking their games because of how often they disagreed about who won. They'll play a game of HORSE on their basketball hoop to see who does the dishes.

"I'm definitely winning HORSE," he said, although he admitted that Julie has improved her basketball skills while waxing him.

It doesn't matter how often he wins. He said he would end up doing the dishes.

They don't race to see who can fold the most socks in the shortest amount of time, but Julie said she's the better cleaner. The latter is denied byZach.

"That is not true," he said. "I would challenge that more than once."

What is Julie's opinion of the other person?

She said "Video games." He's going to be so angry that I said that.

Couple's therapy.

Julie Ertz said that if it wasn't for the app, they wouldn't have a relationship with their phones.

The summer gave both of them a chance to rehabilitate together.

In the first half of the Red Stars' season opener, Julie tore her knee and had ankle surgery. Julie was unable to bend her knee in the back of the car and they drove together to rehabilitate. There were two training tables in the corner. Julie had her rehab first.

They called it "couples therapy."

Having someone who has had injuries before, who understands the emotional roller-coaster, who understands the mental battle, and who understands the physical demands of rehabilitation was very important to Julie.

She said that she could be vulnerable, honest and brutally honest, and that she worried a lot.

He said that he was the one who had to cook and carry more of the burden. "That's what life is, someone is down, the other person has to pick them up."

The teams love non-QB passes.

No regrets about the draft.

There may be more targets for Edwards-Helaire.

Giants focus on their stars.

Each marriage is unique. None of them are perfect. Julie said that having someone at home who understands what the other is going through is great.

"It's been a real blessing for both of us, because she's already dealt with everything that I've had to deal with," he said.

They hold each other accountable. One pushes the other to work out when they are tired.

They're not just the football player and soccer player, they're also the two-time World Cup champion and former U.S. Player of the Year. They're husband and wife to each other. At the end of the day, they want to go home to each other, talk about their day, and make dinner.

They've been able to do that for the first time in a long time.

"You go home and there's someone that loves you more than anything else, just for who you are, not the athlete, not the football player, not what everyone else sees, just for who you are," he said. It's rewarding to know that you have someone that's always going to be there for you, regardless of what's going on in life.
