Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen announced Friday night that he's been diagnosed with mental health issues.

Someone was inside his home when he called the police. He made several posts on social media that raised questions about his well-being. He was taken to a mental health facility after coming out of the house.

The player posted an update on Friday.

I'm not sure, but I am bipolar. I will be an advocate for mental health. I have been running for a long time. I'm no longer ashamed of it. When my mother died, it all started. I thought I was great for a long time. I will do everything the experts say. I miss my friends and my family. Thank you for the love and support, but most of all thank you for the prayers.

The Vikings released a statement.

The Wilf family and the local authorities were thanked by the Minnesota general manager for having plans in place to help prevent tragedies.

"All I know is that when we got the call this morning, our top concern was Everson, his wife, and his family, how much we love them," he told reporters. How much of a part they are in this family.

The Vikings placed Griffen on the reserve/non- football illness list while he was receiving treatment.

A fourth-round pick by Minnesota in the 2010 draft, Griffen was out of USC.

After a decade with the Vikings, he split the 2020 campaign between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions before rejoining the team as a free agent in August.
The four-time Pro Bowl selection has recorded 377 total tackles and 85.5 sacks across 170 games in his 12-year NFL career.
