The No. 1 overall prospect in the high school class of 2021, Ohio State quarterback Ewers, will enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports says that Ewers informed OSU of his intentions.

Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M are among the options for the former high school star who is considering a return to his home state.

Ewers was reclassified from the class of 2022 to the class of 2021. He only played two snaps for the Ohio State offense as C.J. Stroud took over.

The Ewers should have plenty of interest. Coming out of college, Ewers was compared to ex-NFL quarterback Philip Rivers and offered a scouting report.

Good height with a plus frame. A dual-threat QB with mobility and pro-style QB skills. A quarterback who can stay accurate on the move. Throws with ease and varies arm angles as needed. The routes over the middle and down the seams have impressive spin rates. Field-stretching vertical arm strength is used to hit big plays. Timing patterns and downfield routes that require it are encouraged.

Good runner by design or scramble. Understands how to protect himself as a runner. The shows encourage pocket presence. Senses pressure and knows how to respond. If it means hanging in there to make the throw, then also willing to stand and deliver under duress. He's so good because he takes risks, but also because he's so good. Release speed is good in general, but could quicken a bit at times. At his position and across the board, a top QB prospect. Future impact high-major starter with long-term potential to be taken high in the NFL draft.

Ewers had 29 offers, including ones from Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and USC. Ewers chose Ohio State, although he appears to be done there.

If Ewers ends up finding success elsewhere, he would be the first college quarterback to transfer and find great success. Kyler Murray transferred to Oklahoma and became the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, while Baker Mayfield became the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.

Ewers is still a ways away from a pro career, but he should have plenty of options to choose from as he searches for a new home.
