Mary Carmack-Altwies, the District Attorney of Santa Fe County, said in a statement Friday that criminal charges are being considered in the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Carmack-Altwies said those involved in the handling and use of firearms on the Rust set had a duty to make sure others on the set were safe, seemingly alluding to the three people who allegedly handled the gun prior to the shooting.
She said it appears that certain actions and inactions led to Hutchins' death.
Carmack-Altwies said she may find that certain individuals are criminally culpable once she is able to review the complete investigation.
Baldwin denied to Stephanopoulos that he was responsible for Hutchins' death, and said that actors shouldn't be the last line of defense in gun safety.

According to Variety, Lane Luper, a camera assistant who walked off the set prior to the shooting, issued a statement on Thursday night, challenging Baldwin's claims that he did not pull the gun. Alec Baldwin, David Halls, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and the producers of "Rust" are trying to avoid personal responsibility through false claims.

Hutchins was killed and Souza was wounded by a gun Baldwin was holding. Attorneys for the woman have suggested that someone may have introduced the live rounds as an act of sabotage. Carmack-Altwies has ruled that out. Two civil lawsuits have been filed against the producers of the film, including Baldwin, and they claim there were unsafe practices on the set.
Baldwin told Stephanopoulos that the investigation could be finished in February or March. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office has not made a public statement.
