Alaska Air has a website where you can book award. American Airlines is one of the cheaper options for Alaska Airline award to Europe. Alaska Airline partners require less miles to fly to Europe in economy or business. 35,000 miles in economy is what the air awards from Iceland are. British award first class awards cost less than the business class awards from Iberia. Being surcharge free makes these awards attractive. Other partners don't have a fuel surcharge or charge less miles. Finnair is an example.

The bottom line.

Alaska Airline miles can now be used on Iberia. Iberia has some great rewards redemption routes. Alaska Airlines has a concerning trend of award costs being higher than other partners. Alaska Airline is increasing the amount of award miles it requires for tickets. Alaska Airlines is the last airline in the United States to give away miles. This makes it easier to earn miles. The downside of higher cost awards is that they are more expensive. As more partners and mix partner awards are introduced, I expect further devaluation of Alaska Airlines awards. Alaska Airlines sweet spot awards are going to disappear soon.
