Neil Olshey, the general manager of the Portland Trail blazers, was fired after an investigation into allegations of a toxic workplace culture.

Olshey was fired due to violations of the Portland Trail blazers' Code of Conduct.

The organization won't publicly release the findings of the investigation out of respect for those who participated in it.
According to Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, the O'Melveny & Myers law firm was hired by the Portland Trail blazers to investigate allegations that Olshey created a hostile environment for employees.

According to Haynes, members of the organization said the general manager's actions led to mental and physical stress, and some questioned whether enough action was taken following the death of former video assistant and player development coach, Zach Cooper, in April 2020.

Cooper died unexpectedly at the age of 32.

Olshey said at the time that it was a heartbreaking loss for the entire Trail Blazers family. A positive spirit, a worker and an outstanding teacher were whatZach was. My thoughts are with his family and all who loved him.

Olshey was hired as Portland's general manager. He was an assistant coach and assistant GM for the Los Angeles Clippers.

John Canzano of The Oregonian wrote a column in which he said the culture within the organization was "busted" and suggested that the team speak with security staff and ball boys as part of the exit-interview process.

The line of decent, hard-working employees at the Blazers are. They work under heavy-handed guidelines and directives. They play scared. The operation is clouded by the culture of Vulcan, Inc.

Olshey downplayed the criticisms as the season came to a close.

The GM told reporters that he was comfortable with where the culture was. "You guys know how close the team is, how close they feel about the coaching staff, and the support that they get from the organization." They know that we have their best interests at heart.

Olshey was given a five-year contract extension in May of 2019.
