Alec Baldwin said that he feels terrible about the shooting of a cinematographer on a New Mexico film set, but that he is not guilty.

Baldwin said in an ABC interview that aired Thursday night that he was not responsible for the shooting, but that someone else was. I might have killed myself if I felt responsible.

Baldwin said that it was important for investigators to find out who put the bullet in the gun that was supposed to be empty, that killed Halyna Hutchins and injured the director.

There is only one question to be answered, and that is where the live round came from. Baldwin said something.

Baldwin said in the interview that he didn't pull the gun. I wouldn't point a gun at anyone and shoot them. Never.

He said Hutchins asked him to point the gun at her before it went off.

Baldwin pulled the hammer back.

He said that he let go of the hammer and the gun went off.

Stephanopoulos told Baldwin that he should not point a gun at someone on a set unless the person directing him was the cameraman.

Baldwin said he didn't know a live round was in the gun until he was interviewed hours later. He thought Hutchins might have had a heart attack.

The idea that a person would put a live bullet in a gun was not true.

He had a lot of tears in his eyes when he described Hutchins as a person who was loved by everyone and admired by everyone who worked with her.

Baldwin said he was doing the interview to make it clear that he would go to any lengths to make up for what happened.

Baldwin said that he wanted to make sure that he didn't come across as the victim.

The investigators said there was some complacency in how weapons were handled. It is too soon to determine if charges will be filed in the fatal shooting.

Baldwin said he met with the film's armorer for a gun training session before the shoot, and she appeared capable and responsible.

He assumed that she was up to the job because she was there.

The subject of much scrutiny has been Reed. Her attorney said she did not put the round in the gun and that she was the victim of sabotage. Authorities say there is no evidence of that.

Baldwin said that there was no indication that crew members were unhappy with safety conditions on the set, though some resigned over the issue.

Baldwin said he had never heard of that.

The film has been the subject of complaints about cost-cutting.

He said that everyone who makes movies has a responsibility to not be careless with their money.

Baldwin said that he didn't think cost-cutting compromised safety.

He did not observe any safety or security issues while he was there.

Baldwin doesn't believe he will be charged with a crime.

He has spoken to the sheriff's department before. I don't have anything to hide.

He said the incident left him devastated.

He said that he had dreams about where guns were going off. These images have kept me awake at night and I haven't slept in weeks.

Baldwin said that his career could be over.

He said his next production still wants him, but he wondered if he wanted to work more after this.

Alec Baldwin says someone is responsible for the Rust shooting, but not him.
