Sidney Powell And ‘Kraken’ Lawyers Must Pay More Than $175,000 To Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer And Others

A federal judge ruled Thursday that attorneys including Sidney Powell and Lin Wood will have to pay more than $175,000 in attorneys fees to Michigan officials and the city of Detroit, as part of sanctions the court had previously imposed against the attorneys for their lawsuit attempting to overturn the presidential election results.

The outcome of the 2020 presidential election is the topic of a news conference by Sidney Powell.

The state of Michigan and the city of Detroit were ordered to pay more than $21 million by the judge.

In August, Powell, Wood and their co-counsel were sanctioned by the court for their post- election lawsuit, which was found to be a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process.

The city of Detroit was awarded slightly less than it was requested, as the judge disagreed with several minor ways in which the city calculated its total fees.

The attorneys were ordered to pay their fees, as well as at least 12 hours of continuing legal education on pleading standards and election law, and were referred to the boards where they could be disciplined.

Donald Campbell, an attorney representing Powell and other counsel, has not yet responded to a request for comment.

The lawyers would not have to pay the fees as the litigation plays out if Powell and her co-counsel appealed the ruling.

The case was not about fraud, but about debasing the judicial process to do so, according to the August sanctions ruling.

The key background.

Powell personally brought four lawsuits to overturn the election results in battleground states and was part of a broader legal campaign waged by Trump and his allies. The cases were part of a legal strategy she dubbed "releasing the Kraken" after the 1981 film The Clash of theTitans. The Michigan lawsuit was dismissed in December because it was not proof of election fraud, but rather an amalgam of theories, conjecture, and speculation. Powell and her co-counsel face potential sanctions in Wisconsin, where the governor has asked them to pay more than $100,000 in defamation lawsuits against her from voting machines that were tied to election fraud.

Lawyers for Sidney Powell and Kraken were asked to pay more than $200,000.

The attorneys who brought the Michigan election fraud lawsuit were reprimanded.

Lin Wood blames Sidney Powell for trying to Evade Punishment as the judge expresses skepticism.

Forbes reported that Sidney Powell's groups were subpoenaed as part of a criminal investigation.
