DOJ probing Andrew Cuomo sexual harassment claims, contract reveals

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo speaks during a news conference.

A newly disclosed document shows that the U.S. Department of Justice is investigating claims of sexual harassment by Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo was facing criminal investigations for his conduct toward women.

The incumbent Democrat resigned in August after an investigation concluded that he had sexually harassed at least 11 women.

The office of Kathy Hochul, the current governor, signed a legal services contract with Wilkie Farr & Gallagher, who were aware of the federal investigation.

The New York Post obtained the contract through a Freedom of Information Law request and reported its contents on Thursday.

The DOJ and other law enforcement entities had made requests for information about Cuomo's response to the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in his handling of cases involving nursing home patients. Cuomo cut a lucrative deal to write a book about his handling of the state's response to the Pandemic.

The contract says that the DOJ is investigating sexual harassment claims against the then Governor.

The Civil Division of the DOJ opened an inquiry in August based on the AG's politically motivated inquiry, according to Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Cuomo.
