A person familiar with the matter and a new report from Insider say that the in-house smartwatch that will be made by the company will launch in 2022.

Despite the fact that it has had a companion Wearable platform for years, the company has never designed its own smartwatch, despite the fact that it has made its own smartphones for years.

The watch is being worked on by the hardware group of the search engine giant. The new watch will be similar to thePixel phones in that it will serve as an example for both consumers and hardware partners. The device is expected to cost more than a Fitbit and compete directly with the Apple Watch, according to a source.

The new watch will have basic fitness tracking features, including step counting and a heart rate monitor, and will be compatible with Wear OS.

The latest iteration of the Wear OS platform is currently being reinvented by Google. Wear OS 3 was developed as a partnership with Samsung, merging the Tizen platform into the own Wear OS. Wear OS 3 is only available on the newest iteration of the flagship device from the South Korean company, the Galaxy Watch 4, which runs a heavily customized version of the new operating system that excludes most of the services and apps from the internet giant.

According to a report, in the past, aPixel Watch was a thing. An employee told Insider that the idea of the two watches being marketed as part of the Pixel brand was scrapped because they didn't look like what belonged in the family. When they came out, they didn't impress us.

The news of a new device from the company isn't a complete surprise. In an interview with The Verge earlier this year, Osterloh said that an in-house Wear OS Wearable was already on the horizon. The team from the Fitbit will be working on Wear OS in the future, but it is not clear if that is referring to the Rohan watch or something else.
