Is Thursday a must-win game for the Cowboys?

Domonique Foxworth andKimberly Martin disagree on whether Thursday's game is a must-win for the Cowboys. There is a time and a place for this.

The match between the Dallas Cowboys and the man they call "Mo" has been perfect so far.

Few teams in the NFL gain more attention than the Cowboys, good or bad, because the rookies love the spotlight.

The New Orleans Saints are playing the Caesars Superdome. The bright lights will find the man.

"Let the eyes be on me," he said. I was already prepared for the moment, so it won't change anything. Some people are born with it. I think I was born for it and I need to play like that.

The attention can make playing for the Cowboys overwhelming. On and off the field, every move is analyzed. Some players are able to deal with the pressure. Others are sensitive. The No. 12 overall pick in the draft has flourished.

McCarthy said the club has a character breakdown in scouting reports to determine whether draftees can handle the demands of playing for the Cowboys.

McCarthy, who has been with the Packers, 49ers, Saints, and Chiefs in his career, said that working for the Cowboys was very different. It's a spotlight like no other.

After the Cowboys' bye week, Micah Parsons came on strong, with 36 tackles, 6.5 sacks and 2 forced turnovers in the last five games.

The hype that can turn some Cowboys into household names is not the only thing that makes Parsons special. He added more to his preparation after what he believed were too many subpar moments, and his production has increased since the bye week.

The first practice after the bye was the morning of Oct. 24 when defensive coach Dan Quinn walked into The Star. He saw that he was going to get there about 7 a.m.

"I asked what we were going on here," he said. "I said that." He said he was changing some things.

The extra time gave him the chance to get more treatment, study opponents and work out.

I didn't think I had to change anything. "I had to find it myself." I had to do it on my own. Nobody told me to do it. I had to do it because I challenge myself every week to be great and find a way to impact the game, whether that's at end or linebacker. I feel like it shouldn't matter where I am. I need to find a way to make money. Help my team win. I want to be great.

The results have been noticeable.

He had four tackles for loss in the first game after the bye. He had seven tackles and 2.5 sacks in a loss to the Broncos. He had two tackles for loss against the Falcons.

He had two more sacks. He finished with 12 pressures, tying Nick Bosa and J.J. Watt for the most of any player in the past five seasons.

He had a tackle for loss and a sack in the overtime against the Las Vegas Raiders, but a pass interference penalty kept the Raiders' game-winning drive alive.

"Micah's continued to make big plays for us in big time moments." We count on him for that.

"I think I should shine in that moment," he said. I wanted to be in that moment. I wanted to make a play. I wanted it on my back. I want to be involved in it. Those are the moments that you remember the most.

On pace for 103.5 tackles and 14 sacks, Parsons has 67 tackles and 9.0 sacks. Bruce Smith of the Buffalo Bills was the last player to hit both marks in a season. Von Miller was the only rookies with more than 15 tackles for loss through 11 games in 2011.

"What jumps out to me is his hand usage, very developed as far as his technique, using countermoves to win and then you see his high-level traits," said former NFL safety Matt Bowen, who is an analyst on the NFL Matchup show. A lot of guys have high-level qualities. They can't get home to the quarterback because they can't create separation. You can see that and then you can see his high-level traits. His ability to bend is ridiculous. The short-area speed is more important than the long-area speed for pass-rushers. You're done when he closes.

Willie Townes and Harvey Martin both had sacks of at least 8 in a season before sacks became an official stat in 1982. Sean Lee had 13 tackles for loss, the most by a Dallas defender. His 6.5 sacks in the month of November are tied for the second-most in a single-month in team history. Ware had seven in October of 2011.

Sean Payton said that he jumps off the tape at him. At the end position, he's impressive when he rushes. He plays the same position. He's a handful when he gets on the tackles and is rushing. He's playing at different spots in different games. He's fit into their system well.

Only one player in the league has a higher pass rush win rate and run stop win rate this year than the one who does it, and that's the one who does it with at least 100 pass rushes and 100 run stop plays.

The defensive rookies of the year are assured. What about the defensive player of the year? Lawrence Taylor was the only rookies to win the award.

The Cowboys have lost three of four and that will affect some of that. It will depend on how the other candidates fare, like Los Angeles Rams' Donald, Cleveland Browns' Garrett, New England Patriots' Matthew Judon, and possibly Cowboys teammate and leader in the league in intercepts, Trevon Diggs.

As the games get bigger, it will be dependent on how Parsons performs.

"I think he can because of the production," he said. If you had a discussion with someone and asked, "Who's the best edge rusher?", a lot of people would agree with that, and I'd agree with that as well. If you take Myles Garrett out, who is next? I think that's valid.

The Cowboys will play the Washington Football Team in a prime-time game on December 26. They play the Arizona Cards in a game that could affect the seeding of the playoffs.

As the games get more important, more attention will be paid to him. That's fine with him.

At the end of the day, it's just football. People have been watching me play football my whole life, and that's something I've been doing my whole life. It's just a few extra eyes.
