The travel trade union claimed a victory for Thomas Cook staff who were redundant.
The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association, with its solicitors Morrish, won a claim against Telecom Service Centres, also known as 'Webhelp', on behalf of five former Thomas Cook employees.
Some of the staff were employed by Thomas Cook for more than 20 years.
They worked for Webhelp before the collapse of Thomas Cook. When Thomas Cook collapsed, they were made redundant because they were based in Webhelp's premises.
The union was successful in arguing that Thomas Cook had traditionally paid redundant workers on an enhanced basis. It said that under TUPE these staff were entitled to redundancy pay in line with their Thomas Cook contracts, rather than the statutory pay offered by Webhelp.
The Glasgow Employment Tribunals heard a three-day hearing in March in which the union was found in favor. The awards were paid in November.
The result for our members is fantastic just before Christmas. Our members are sharing over $20,000 in settlements. Every worker needs to join a union.
