The Boston Red Sox and pitcher Rich Hill have agreed to a one-year contract, according to a report.
Hill's third stint in Boston will be reported by the Boston Globe.
The Red Sox do things right. Hill said last month that if he told you that they were in the upper tier of franchises, they were doing well. There is a need for starting pitching throughout the league, not just in Boston. Many other clubs need it.
Hill played for the New York Mets and the New York Yankees. He made 31 starts and went 8-7 with a 3.86 and 1.21 WHIP, his highest total since 2007, and second-highest of his career. The lefty has only topped 25 starts three times in his career.
Michael Wacha and James Paxton were signed by the Red Sox earlier this year as they look for high-upside, short-term options in the rotation. Wacha has a 5.11 earned run average over the last three seasons. It is not expected that he will join the rotation until midway through the 2022 season.
All contracts must be completed by midnight. The collective bargaining agreement is due to expire Wednesday. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is expected to expire.
