Alec Baldwin told George Stephanopoulos in an interview that aired Thursday that he did not shoot the prop gun that went off on the New Mexico film set.

Baldwin said he didn't pull the gun. I wouldn't point a gun at anyone and shoot them. Never.

It is Baldwin's first sitdown interview since the shooting of "Rust." Baldwin was told the gun was safe to handle, but he is still investigating how a live round ended up in the weapon.

Baldwin broke down in tears as he described Halyna Hutchins, who was killed on the set. The director was wounded.

I have no idea how a live round ended up on the set. Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn't supposed to be on the property.

The interview will be aired on ABC at 8 pm. You can watch it later that evening on Hulu.

The investigators said there was some complacency in how weapons were handled. It is too soon to determine if charges will be filed in the fatal shooting.

The investigation into the shooting will be examined in more depth on a two-hour special next week.
