Free-agent pitcher Marcus Stroman says he's reached deal with Chicago Cubs

The right-handed pitcher announced on social media that he had a deal with the Cubs.

"Chicago!" was the message that Stroman posted to the social networking site.

He said that Chicago has always been one of his favorite cities. There is culture and passion everywhere. Excited to pitch in front of the best fans in sports. Everyone in the city is very welcome. I can feel it. Let's get to work!

Since recovering from a torn anterior cruciatele in spring training in 2015, the pitcher has been one of baseball's steadiest. With the omission of a 2020 season when he first missed the beginning due to a torn calf muscle before opting out, he ranks tied for fifth for games started, eighth for innning pitched and 16th in fWAR (15.4), posting FIPs of 3.71, 3.90,

The four pitches that Stroman uses to attack hitters are a cutter, a cutter-in-hand, a sinker and a slider. His proclivity for allowing hard contact is balanced out by his 8th ranked ground ball rate of 50.8%, which is the third-most hard contact of any pitcher in baseball, according to Baseball Savant's hard-hit rate.

Following the injury to Jacob deGrom, the New York Mets' most reliable pitcher was Marcus Stroman. One of two pitchers to start at least 20 games for the team, and he allowed no more than three earned runs in 29 of his 33 starts.
