Seattle Seahawks sign veteran Adrian Peterson to practice squad

The running back might have left something in his Hall of Fame career if the Seattle Seahawks looked at him.

The coach told reporters that the practice squad signing of the 36-year-old was a potential reinforcement for their banged-up backfield.

Excited to see if he can help us out and give us something. He's a player that I've known for a long time, and I've admired him a lot over the years. We didn't get him back in the day, but I told him we finally got him. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does and where he fits in. He's an incredible competitor and a great guy, so I'm anxious to give him a chance to get on the field with our boys.

We're going to compete. All. Day.

The Seattle Seahawks will be in action on December 1, 2021.

The Tennessee Titans signed him last week after losing their star to a broken foot. He carried the ball 27 times and scored a touchdown.

Pete said he needs to see him practice first before making any comments about what he may add to Seattle's backfield. After losing to the Washington Football Team on Monday night, the Seattle Seahawks are in recovery mode as they prepare to host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

"I have to wait and see how he does out here," he said. I've seen him play. I'm anxious to see what he adds to the club because he plays as tough and aggressive as he ever has. He's also fired up about it.

The fifth-ranked running back in NFL history has 14,902 career rushing yards. He spent his first 10 seasons with Minnesota and then went to Arizona, New Orleans, Washington, Detroit and finally Tennessee.

The league average for rushing yards per game is 92.50. They've been without their top running back since Week 5 because of a neck injury that required surgery. Alex Collins has only topped 50 yards in one of the seven games he has played in.

Collins and DeeJay Dallas combined for 18 rushing yards on 10 carries against Washington, as Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer were inactive due to injuries. Josh Johnson was elevated from the practice squad and only played on the special teams.

The word from the trainers is thatPenny will practice, though it's not known if she will be available for the 49ers game.

The loss to Washington all but ended the Seattle's chances of making the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 seasons.

He was asked if he thought about giving a look to a younger back like Johnson.

"We're trying to get ready to win the football game," he said. I'm going to see if Adrian has something to offer. He brings something when he is in his presence. Let's see what happens. We're trying to get the right mix. He's been in and out. We were worried about him staying back. We're not sure about Homer this week because he's been banged up. It looks like there are some opportunities.

We'll see how it goes and see how the guys respond. I'm excited for you guys to see what he looks like playing in our uniform and doing something for us, so we'll see how it goes.

The practice squad additions were receiver Cade Johnson and free safety Elijah Benton. He was on Seattle's practice squad.
