Lounge Review: Capital One Debuts Impressive New Lounge at DFW

It all began on December 2, 1939, when American Airlines CEO C.R. Smith opened a lounge at the New York City airport.

There are thousands of airline lounges today, and the idea of creating a separate space in an airline terminal with exclusive membership caught on like wildfire.

What about credit card lounges?

The lounge concept is a good way to encourage flyer loyalty.

Capital One has a lounge at the airport.

Capital One recently announced a new lounge initiative.

I had a chance to visit the new lounge before I went to Europe, so I thought you would like it!

The Capital One Lounge is at the airport.

The Capital One Lounge is located in Terminal D.

The lounge is on the second floor, but you can just chill in the lobby before the elevators open.

Who can visit the Capital One Lounge?

The lounge is for Capital One's new Venture X card.

The Capital One Lounges will have special entry offers for Venture X, Venture and Spark Miles.
>
Venture X cardholders will get unlimited access to the Capital One Lounges, along with complimentary entry for up to two guests per visit, and special pricing of $45 per visit for additional guests.
After two complimentary visits per year, Venture and Spark Miles cardholders will have access to a special entry rate of $45 per visit. The price for guests of Venture and Spark Miles is $45 per visit.
All other people can enter the Lounge for $65 per visit.
Kids under two are free.

The Capital One lounge.

The check-in desk is where Capital One personnel will greet you when you walk in.

There is a Grab-and-Go area.

The Capital One Lounge's first area is the most revolutionary.

This area introduces you to the design language used for the rest of the lounge.

How is it different?

There is a small seating area with power outlets and snacks.
The lounge model is designed to provide a great experience for customers who can come and spend time in the lounge, and most lounges require a good bit of time to maximize your enjoyment.

Capital One has created an area that is part of the lounge that is for people who just need a quick charge of the phone or email.

They give you little baggies to take with you.

It is almost a lounge-within-a- lounge, but I think it is a great way for people to get value from a lounge even if they are just connecting to another flight.

The central column area is located in the central part of the country.

The central area of the native tribes in the movie "Avatar" was called Hometree.

The central column area has four sides, including the refrigerated section of the grab-and-go area, two sides with food options, and one with soda taps.

The food items were distributed around the central column area so that people could not stand in a long line at a buffet area.

Across from the food side of the central column area was a pastry area with an assortment of baked goods.

I like the way they approached this, and I think Lounge Science is a good idea, because people hate waiting in long lines at things like buffets.

The bar area has bars.

There are two types of lounges in the USA: basic and premium.

The Capital One Lounge at DFW has a great bar area.

The use of live plants and wooden slats to warm the environment is a design aesthetic that I love.

The Capital One Lounge will have cocktails made specifically for it, as well as premium spirits and coffee.

Capital One uses local vendors where possible, and I like the fact that the Lakewood Temptress is a favorite beer of mine.

The bartender was very skilled and warm.

I like a good old fashioned so I gravitate towards that.

The Blazing Saddles was a beautiful drink and the tajin on the rim of the glass added just enough heat to be interesting but not overpowering.

If you have a manly friend who asks you to get them a drink, The Don't Call Me Shirley is a great idea.
I would rank the four drinks based on my personal preference.

Old fashioned butter pecan.
Blazing saddles.
Don't call me Shirley because of the umbrella.
Bluebonnet.

I realized that I needed to eat some food in a hurry or else I would end up doing the Funky Chicken dance move and scare the children.

The baklava was divine.

The food was great and the portions were great, but I felt like I was eating too much.

The lounge has seating.

There are different seating areas in the lounge, from tables and chairs for dining to fancy solo loungers.

Health and well-being.

The Capital One Lounge has a nice area for the body and soul.
There are two multi-faith rooms for those who need to practice their faith.

They have a small fitness studio with two bikes and mats for yoga.

They have a sleep Pod in the lounge.

You can set a program and a cover will come around and give you a nap.

What did I think?

The Capital One Lounge at DFW Airport was well designed and practical, but I am worried about how they will scale up the variable timing items, like food, with the crowds that will inevitably find their way to the new lounge.

Should I give up my American Express Platinum Card for a Venture X card that costs half the annual fee, since I enjoyed it so much?

Capital One did a great job and it is worth a visit next time you pass through.

Do you have any opinions on the new Capital One Lounge at DFW Airport?

Flagship First Dining is the most exclusive lounge experience American Airlines offers. I was able to sample it at DFW. You love pictures of exclusive lounge experiences.

In American Airlines.

There is a shower. A massage is done. There is champagne. You need a car to get you to your plane. The best airport lounges in the world have all of these things. The lounge visit is important for me when I travel internationally. There's something about eating a good meal.

In American Express.

I had the chance to check out American Express's new lounge at DFW International Airport at the beginning of my recent trip to Europe. I live in DFW and am a frequent flyer.
