Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General, told reporters Wednesday that the new variant of omicron should not surprise them as it is what viruses do and will continue to do as long as we allow it to continue spreading.

The omicron variant has been found in 24 countries, including the U.S., Canada, South Africa, Botswana, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Germany, Israel, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Israel and the Netherlands.

Tedros said at the media briefing on Covid-19 that using the tools available, such as vaccines, to contain delta will also help curb omicron.

Tedros said that the coronaviruses was still responsible for most Covid cases.

A traveler who returned from South Africa on November 22 tested positive for the omicron variant on Monday, the CDC said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a directive that took effect Tuesday for airline carriers to submit contact information of passengers who have been in eight African countries.

Tedros said that the WHO was looking into how the omicron variant affects the transmission and severity of the virus, and whether it will affect the effectiveness of covid tests.

The number is big.

There was a high of 78%. According to a Harris poll, a majority of U.S. adults had heard a lot or a little about the omicron variant and were concerned that it would harm existing Covid-19 vaccines. The poll was conducted between November 24 and November 28. The ratio of U.S. adults worried about omicron was higher than the number of people who said they were concerned about the strain.

The key background.

The variant was first discovered in South Africa. There are more than 30 changes to the spikeProtein. Fauci said Tuesday that people could better protect themselves against severe disease by getting fully vaccine and getting booster shots. The discovery of omicron has limited air travel to southern African countries. Those 60 and older are advised by the WHO to delay travel plans if they are at risk of developing Covid symptoms.

Americans are more worried about Omicron Variant than Delta, according to a poll.

The Netherlands says that the omicron variant was within its borders a week before the South African flights caused panic.
Despite the high Vaccination Rates, Singapore Bucks are still living with covid.

The WHO recommends postponing travel over Omicron concerns.
