Andrew Berry said Wednesday that he expects Baker Mayfield to play his best football after the bye week.

Berry said that Baker was the quarterback. He is healthy enough to win games for us. He's going to be our starter if he's ready to go.

While battling various injuries, including a torn labrum to his non-throwing left shoulder, he has struggled at times this season. He is ranked 26th in QBR with a rating of 37.9, which is below where he finished in 2020.

The team has scored 17 points once in the last six weeks. After the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Kevin said he wouldn't consider a quarterback change.

Berry said that Baker is incredibly physically tough. He has played well during stretches.

The team picked up the fifth-year option on the No. 1 overall draft pick, but he is under contract through the 2022 season.

Mayfield is also extension eligible. Berry wouldn't talk about his contract status, but he did say that any evaluation wouldn't be based on his performance this season. Last year, he led the Browns to their first playoff victory in 26 years and finished in the top 10 in QBR.

Berry said you try to take a big picture with Baker. It's about the body of work over a long period of time. Baker has played good football this season.

There will be a lot of time to think about how we're going to build the roster. We're focused on doing everything we can to maximize this season.
