Popular Massachusetts GOP Gov. Charlie Baker Won’t Seek Another Term

According to multiple reports, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker won't be running for another term, after he racked up high approval ratings in a deeply Democratic state while breaking with the national Republican Party on numerous issues.

If Baker were to win another term in 2022, he would have become the first governor in Massachusetts history to serve three consecutive terms.

According to Morning Consult, Baker has the second-highest approval rating of any governor in Massachusetts.

Baker was able to work across party lines with the heavily Democratic state legislature and break with Donald Trump on voter fraud claims after the 2020 presidential election.

"We are determined to continue to put aside the partisan mindset that dominates so much of our political landscape, to form governing partnerships with our colleagues in local government, the Legislature, and the Congressional delegation," Baker and Karyn said.
Baker's polling numbers were better among Democrats and independents than his fellow Republicans, and he faced a difficult primary challenge from a conservative who was the Massachusetts GOP nominee for US Senate.
