A 19-year-old was shot in an attempted robbery while trying to sell a PlayStation 5, the latest indication of how high demand remains for the game console

A 19-year-old man was shot in Texas on Sunday while trying to sell his PS5.

The 19-year-old shooting victim agreed to meet the suspect after he listed his PS5 console for sale online. The suspect tried to rob the man at gun point.
The highly sought after video game console was not present at the scene.

Since the launch of the PS5 in November 2020, there have been a number of crimes related to it.

In the UK, criminals jumped onto moving delivery vehicles to steal the PS5. In the US, sellers have been robbed at gun point.
Since the console's launch, supply has never outpaced demand, and it remains extremely difficult to purchase. There is a shortage of consumer goods and a robust resale market that sprung up in response to demand, and part of that is due to the production and logistics issues for consumer goods, which has affected other consoles like the Nintendo Switch.

The more popular version of the PS5 costs $500 and has a disc reader, but the digital edition costs $400. The last version of the console is being sold for about $800 on resale sites.

It's no surprise that criminals are after the high resale value.

Sony hasn't said when the PS5 will be available to anyone interested in buying one, and representatives didn't respond to a request for comment.
