A surge in interest in the metaverse has led to an explosion in asset outflows for an exchange traded fund.

On June 30 the Roundhill Ball Metaverse was launched with just a few million dollars in assets. The ticker symbol for the exchange traded fund is "metA." The fund seeks to gain exposure to companies that are enabling a future where people spend more and more time in virtual worlds.

The ticker symbol helped boost the assets under management of the exchange traded fund, just a day after Facebook changed its name to Meta.

The fund's assets have grown by 548% since then. Roundhill's business is big for the fund's creator. The fund will generate more than $6 million in annual revenues if the fund maintains assets of at least $823 million.
Since October 28, the Metaverse ETF has risen about 5%, but most of the increase in assets is not due to the appreciation of its underlying holdings, but due to investors who are bullish on the sector and putting new money to work. From October 28 to November 24, the Metaverse ETFs didn't see a single day of declining assets.
