When to Expect Apple to Release macOS 12.1 With SharePlay and More

We are still waiting on features such as SharePlay and Universal Control to be made available through subsequent software updates like macOS 12.1, which is currently in testing, despite the fact that Apple released macOS Monterey in late October.

SharePlay on the Mac was enabled in the first version of macOS. SharePlay will allow users to watch movies and TV shows with friends and family while on a call, and even share their screens.

When will macOS 12.1 be released?

In December, Apple has released several previous macOS updates.

December 14, 2020 is the date of the macOS Big sur.
December 10, 2019: macOS Catalina.
December 5, 2018, is the date of the macOS Mojave.
December 6, 2017: macOS High Sierra.
December 13, 2016 is the date of the macOS Sierra.
OS X El Capitan is out in December.

In mid-November, Apple shared a press release stating that SharePlay is coming to the Mac later this fall, and given that SharePlay was enabled in the macOS 12.1beta, this implies that macOS 12.1 will be released before the end of the year.

From the press release.

New ways for Apple users to stay connected have been introduced by SharePlay, a powerful set of features for shared experiences. Users can watch movies and TV shows, listen to music, or complete a workout with SharePlay support in Apple TV+, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+. Users can use SharePlay to watch on the big screen on Apple TV while using their phones. With screen sharing support, users can browse the web together, look at photos, or show their friends something in a favorite app. SharePlay is coming to Mac later this fall with the release of tvOS and iPadOS.

Universal Control, which will allow for a single mouse, trackpad, and keyboard to be used across multiple Macs and/or iPads side by side, is not certain if it will be included in macOS 12.1. Universal Control is still not enabled in the latest version of macOS, despite Apple's website still listing it as available later this fall. It is clear that Apple is working on a feature that will allow Universal Control settings to be force enabled with a feature flag.

Other new features in macOS Monterey include Live Text, spatial audio in FaceTime, and more.
