The CDC plans to tighten its testing requirements for international travelers after concerns about the omicron variant of Covid-19.

Travelers will need to have a Covid-19 test taken within 24 hours before departure to be free of the disease.

The implementation date is expected to be given by President Joe Biden.

The US requires international arrivals to have a viral test within three days of departure.

Travelers should take a Covid-19 test three to five days after arrival, according to the CDC.
In a White House briefing on Tuesday, the director of the CDC said that the CDC is expanding its airport Covid testing operation at New York JFK, San Francisco, Atlanta and Newark airports.

The program allows for more Covid testing for specific international arrivals, increasing our capacity to identify those with Covid-19 on arrival to the U.S.
