Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat to lose next second-round NBA draft pick for tampering violations

The Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat will lose their second-round picks in the upcoming NBA draft for violating the league's tampering rules.

The NBA has been looking into whether illegal contact and negotiation occurred among teams and agents before the opening of free agency. On August 2.

The Bulls and Heat cooperated with the investigations, which were taken into account when determining the penalties, according to a memo obtained by Adrian Wojnarowski. The teams could have been fined up to $10 million each and faced the loss of additional draft picks.

The Heat said in a statement that they accepted the League's decision. We are moving on.

The New Orleans Pelicans agreed to trade guard Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls for guard Tomas Satoransky and a four-year, $80 million contract for guard Garrett Temple. A sign-and-trade that sent guard Goran Dragic and forward Precious Achiuwa to the Toronto Raptors sent guard Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat for a three-year, $85 million deal.

The Heat used Dragic in the sign-and-trade deal because they guaranteed his $19.4 million team option before free agency.

The Milwaukee Bucks lost a second-round pick for tampering with a restricted free agent. The NBA took into account the fact that the Bucks didn't ultimately acquire the player they wanted, as a result of the penalty.
