Sheriff: Oxford High School shooting suspect used gun dad bought on Black Friday

The sheriff said the boy used a gun his dad bought four days earlier on Black Friday to kill three classmates and injured at least eight others.

The weapon used was a pistol. The suspect had at least two, 15-round magazines, including one with seven remaining rounds.

The suspect fired at least 12 rounds, according to the sheriff. The Oakland County Undersheriff said the suspect fired anywhere from 15 to 20 rounds. That could mean the shooter reloaded his gun at least once.

The suspect's father bought a third magazine that law enforcement have not yet found, but he believes it will be found at the school.

The suspect is a minor and has not yet been charged with a crime. He said the suspect and his parents have retained an attorney and are not talking to law enforcement.

The handgun was purchased somewhere else, but it wasn't clear if it was a new weapon or previously owned by someone else. A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives referred comment to the sheriff's office.

There were photos of the gun used at Oxford High School and targets on social media in the days leading up to the shooting. The suspect made an online post with an image of the gun used, but the sheriff said his office was not aware of any credible threats of violence.

I believe that this was a recent weapon purchase that he had been shooting with. They posted pictures of a target and a weapon.

Multiple parents told the Free Press that their children were at school and heard rumors of violence, some of which prevented their children from attending classes in person.

The crime scene is large and it will take time to complete. He said the school does not have metal detectors.
