Nicolas Cage Is Dracula! Stop the Presses! Nicolas Cage Is Dracula!

The fact that Nicolas Cage is about the play that is the most famous one ever makes perfect sense, since he is probably a vampire in real life. The Oscar-winning star of Face/Off and many, many other strange films is set to play a vampire in the upcoming film Renfield. Yes, he is going to kill it, but not the main character.

Chris McKay is the director of Tomorrow War and Lego Batman Movie, and The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Nicolas Cage is involved in the project. The film is described by the trade as a modern-day adventure story that is comical in tone. We were previously told that this take on the project is described as a comedy, lighthearted approach in the vein of Taika Waititi's vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, in which Renfield realises he is in a bad, co-dependency relationship.

When you think of Renfield, you immediately think of the character of Guillermo on What We Do in the Shadows. This is a big budget adventure horror film, so you would imagine that kind of mentor-mentee relationship with a bunch more action and swashbuckling. Nicolas Cage is almost certainly hamming it up in a way that only Nicolas Cage can. The script was written by Ryan Ridley from an outline by Robert Kirkman, which suggests a blend of more serious horror with smart silliness.

In the past decade, Cage hasn't appeared in a big budget studio movie, but he has been getting some of his voice work in films like The Croods and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. There are always a few stinkers like Prisoners of the Ghostland, but even when the script is borderline incomprehensible, Cage brings an irresistibly fun charisma to every role. He starred in a cult horror comedy called Vampire's Kiss. Put him in a movie about a vampire? That sounds like a really bad combination.
