Cyber Monday sales were down over the course of the year, according to a report. Consumers spent more in 2020 than shoppers did this year.

Cyber Monday and Black Friday are big shopping days.

The holiday shopping report from Amazon backs up Adobe's claims that Cyber Monday sales were down this year. Cyber Monday was the single biggest shopping day in the company's history, while Thanksgiving weekend was the largest holiday shopping season in Amazon history.

There was no mention of Amazon having the best shopping day in its history. Instead, Amazon boasted about having the biggest kick off to the holiday shopping season, as well as a "record-breaking" Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but it didn't specify which record it broke.

Adobe attributes the decrease in spending on Black Friday to shoppers taking advantage of sales and promotions earlier in the holiday season. Adobe says that people are getting their shopping done in October and November and are also buying in-demand products when they see them, which contributed to a dip in Cyber Monday sales.

The director at Adobe Digital Insights said that consumers were not waiting for discounts on big shopping days like Cyber Monday and Black Friday. Growing awareness of supply chain challenges and product availability was the reason for this. It spread out e-commerce spending across the months of October and November, which will help us to break online shopping records.

Adobe reports that shoppers spent $109.8 billion from November 1st to the 29th, an increase of 11.9 percent from last year. There have been 22 days where shoppers have spent over $3 billion, and only nine around this time in 2020.

Apple Watches, Apple Pencils, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, Meta, and laptops from HP, Lenovo, and Dell were some of the top sellers during Cyber Monday according to Adobe.
