Meyer is a big fan of the Jags.
According to Michael DiRocco, the head coach of the Jacksonville football team has no desire to return to the college game. Meyer is a former Notre Dame assistant coach who was mentioned when Brian Kelly left for LSU. Being the coach of Notre Dame is a dream job for Meyer.
Meyer, one of the most successful college coaches of all time, has not been a hit in the NFL. The Jacksonville offense is among the league's worst in nearly every category.
Meyer has not prepared Lawrence for the increase in speed at the pro level. In his first 11 career starts, Lawrence has thrown for 2,361 yards and nine touchdown against 10 turnovers. Three times this season, the Jags have topped 20 points.
Meyer's leadership qualities were questioned after he chose to stay in Ohio rather than take the team plane back to Jacksonville after a loss. Several social media posts showed the coach at an Ohio bar, leading to his issuing multiple apologies to the team, and the owner publicly reprimanded him.
It's been speculated on multiple occasions that Meyer would abandon his NFL experiment and return to the college game, where a number of high-profile vacancies have opened up. Meyer has been a college head coach for 18 years.
