‘Negligence’: No Criminal Charges for Florida Daycare After the Death of a Two-Month-Old Infant Left Unattended on Their Watch

A Florida family has suffered a devastating legal blow after their two-month-old baby died in the care of a state-licensed daycare. The establishment caring for the child was not indicted by a grand jury despite the fact that the police department is still investigating the case.

According to an exclusive interview with WCTV, Mar'Tasha Robinson relied on the recommendations of her friends before putting her baby in Hugger Family daycare. She dropped her daughter off at the in- home daycare at 8 a.m., never to see her again.

The Florida Department of Children and Families reported that Robinson's daughter was pronounced dead after she was found unresponsive in a mop bucket at a daycare.

A child in crisis was reported to the police by someone at the daycare. Robinson found out about an incident with one of the children from another parent.

Robinson said that his heart stopped after he received the call. She said she didn't realize the severity of what was happening when she arrived at the business. She didn't know it was her child.

An officer explained to her that her little girl had been in an accident after being left unattended. Jersi Dior died after being taken to the hospital by the authorities.

Robinson declared that leaving her is just negligent.

The child's parents hosted a graveside service for their princess on August 14 at 11 a.m. at Springhill Cemetery and were hoping to get justice. The daycare owner will not be charged with criminal charges after a grand jury voted 10 to 8 not to do so.

The family spoke out about their displeasure with the grand jury's decision.

The aunt of Jersi Dior said that she hoped she heard the ruling wrong. Walter Bishop, the child's great-grandfather, was colorfully expressing what he felt was disregard for Jersi's humanity.

He said that it was like taking a bucket of water and throwing it out in the yard. My grand baby was more than a bucket of water.

The Hugger Family Daycare is not certain if it is still open. Atlanta Black Star tried to reach the business, but the phone line was disconnected.

The daycare had been cited twice by the state for being non- compliant, including violations involving seven children under the age of three. According to its license, the establishment had the capacity to care for 10 children.

The case of Jersi Dior is still open and the police department is still looking for her. The police aren't the only ones who want to know. Both of her parents do the same.

I need some answers. Robinson said that he needed some answers. McKnight said that her mother would be remembered. Justice will be served.

The family is going to file a civil case.
