The Minnesota Vikings are like a lot of other teams in that their game days have been a lot of stress. They have taken it to an extreme.
The Vikings beat the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, but their other 10 games have been decided by one score, with many of them coming down to one play.
"That's the way it is, and that's how it is," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said with a shrug. We had several games that were decided by one play.
The other 31 teams in the league have had it, but not as much as the Vikings. Consider:
Through 12 weeks, 25 games have been decided on the final play, the most since the 1970 merger.
Through 12 weeks, 35 games have had the winning score come in the final minute of regulation or overtime, the fourth most since 1970.
The Vikings are not the only team that has close games decided by one play.
The race for the Super Bowl championship is still open. Nine teams had Super Bowl odds of 13-1 or shorter, matching the most teams with odds that short in the past six years.
The league is always meant to have equal teams, according to the Arizona Cardinals defensive assistant. The Vikings missed a field goal on the last play of the game as the Cards won 34-33.
They don't want teams to run away with it. They want teams to compete. I'm not surprised that the league is even. That's how they want it. It should be that way. It makes it fun because it keeps everyone grinding.
In the first two weeks of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs experienced a lot of close-game emotions.
They overcame a nine point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Cleveland Browns 33-29, but only after intercepting a pass to kill a Cleveland drive.
They led the Ravens by 11 points in the fourth quarter but lost 36-35 after a late Chiefs turnover.
The coach said that he feels more confident this year than ever before.
The league has been trying to get parity for the last few years. There's a lot of parity in the league, and I'm just looking at the way this season has gone for different teams. Every weekend in the NFL there is an opportunity to win a game.
That's a great thing. There's great competition, and we're in it for it.
Unexpected results everywhere.
The Bills lost to the Jaguars in Week 9.
This season, the NFL has had more than its normal number of games that are very one-sided. Through 12 weeks, 35 have been decided by 22 points or more, the second-highest total since 1970.
Even the league's best teams can get blown out. The Packers, Ravens, and Packers are all 8-3), while the Ravens are 9-2 and the Cards are 9-2. The game was lost by 24 points. Green Bay was defeated by 35. Baltimore was defeated by 24. The Bucs have two losses.
There are many strange and unexpected results. The Cleveland Browns went through a 63-point swing from one week to the next, beating the Cincinnati Bengals by 25 points then losing by 38 to the New England Pats.
The Dallas Cowboys trailed the Denver Broncos by 30 points one week and then beat the Atlanta Falcons by 40 the next.
Each of Tom Brady's Super Bowl appearances has been given a first-hand account. Man in the Arena: Tom Brady will be broadcasted on the Disney Channel.
The unpredictability of this season might be the best example of it. Five of their games have been decided by three points or less. All four of their divisional games have been decided by 14 points or more.
It seems that taking a result for granted is trouble for just about any of the 32 teams.
"You have to come to play each and every week, because it's a week-to-week league," said Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
One of the season's biggest upsets happened in Week 9 when the Bills lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills had one more field goal than the Jags, but they were unable to score a touchdown.
Dion Dawkins said after the game that he couldn't get comfortable. Everybody is going to give us their best ball. Everybody is going to give us their best ball every week and we are in a good position. Everyone is going to the Buffalo Bills.
You have to go through the ups and downs of life in football to understand that. It's a kill or be killed world, and now that we know that everybody has their best effort against us, we just know that we have to be at our best every time. We can't remove our foot from the gas pedal.
No giants.
The 7-4 Chiefs lead the AFC West but have had a roller-coaster season so far, losing just two games in the regular season.
Competition is what the NFL is after. The betting favorites have a great record this season. The winning percentage for teams that are supposed to lose would be the highest since 2006
There are no teams that want to avoid being in the playoffs. The defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers have rebounded from two straight losses. One came to the New Orleans Saints and the other to Washington.
In the past two seasons, the Chiefs have won 26 games and played in two Super Bowls. They're 7-4, and one of their losses, 27-3 to the Tennessee Titans in Week 7, was by the biggest losing margin since Patrick Mahomes became their quarterback.

Seattle'sNorton is inspired by a boxing champ dad.
