The new gaming handheld developer kit is built around the upcoming Snapdragon G3X processor. VideoCardz published slides that suggest the device will be used by software developers and manufacturers to build their own software and hardware powered by the mobile gaming technology of the company.

VideoCardz has obtained slides about the next flagship smartphone processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new branding for its mobile chips was announced last month. The processor will be manufactured using a 4nm process, with a CPU that is 20 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient, and a graphics card that is 30 percent faster and 25 percent more power efficient than previous generation models.

The handheld gaming device has a 6,000mAh battery, a1080p webcam, and a support for DisplayPort over USB-C. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and support for HDR. VideoCardz notes that the device could be capable of streaming games from services like xCloud.

This kind of hardware is designed to encourage development on the company's platforms. A Windows on Arm PC released earlier this year was intended to give software developers a cheaper piece of hardware to use to develop Arm apps. The company has put out headsets with its processors.

The announcement of Valve's Steam Deck, a Linux-based handheld PC running on anAMD processor, came in the wake of this latest developer kit. The form factor is not the only thing that Valve is working on, with other companies like Alienware showing off prototypes of their own. The company is betting that other companies will be interested in similar devices and is marketing its processors as the best thing to power them.

With the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit taking place in Hawaii, it is unlikely that we will have too much time to wait.
