Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Dalvin Cook has a torn labrum and will need surgery.

Cook missed the last two games of the regular season with an injury. Cook ran for 130 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs against the New Orleans Saints.

The two-time Pro Bowler was carted off the field during Minnesota's 34-26 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He would be out for the rest of the game with a shoulder injury.

He was putting together another big season before the injury. He had run for 734 yards and four touchdown and caught 21 passes.

Alexander Mattison will take over as the primary ball-carrier.

Mattison was filling in for Cook earlier in the year. He ran for over 200 yards in both of his starts against the Detroit Lions.

The Vikings are still in the running for a wild-card spot. Losing Cook for a long time could be a problem.
