Happy birthday!
I used to know a guy who would greet people like that and he was very positive.
He would say happy birthday to me if he happened to walk by.
Today is the ninth anniversary of Andy's Travel Blog.
Why did I start writing about it?
I retell the story a lot, but I got the same question from people when we got back from Israel.
The full story was richer than that and I wanted to share it.
When I started this, how did I envision it?
I wanted it to be a place where I could point out what I loved about destinations and the world of miles and points.
How did I do that?
I joined the BoardingArea network in order to reach one of my goals.
You have never seen a credit card affiliate link on this site, aside from the ads that come in about credit cards.
At the end of the day, I wanted this website to be about the joy of traveling, but with affiliate links comes a lot of paperwork, a lot of site maintenance and updates, and you need to be bringing in applications or else risk.
I have been surprised by what I have seen about the internet.
I never realized how vulnerable my writing could be until I started doing it.
The rewards of being out there are so sweet. I have met so many people from all over the world, and I can reach out to them even when I am not in the area.
Here are the results.
I would have laughed at you if you told me nine years ago that I would be a well-known professional photographer.

I am close to my 1000th post on the site, so that will be fun, as well as some great trip reports from Europe.
Most importantly...
Thanks to everyone who has visited this site in the past nine years.
My old colleague would have said, "happy birthday!"
Andy's Travel Blog is seven years old, and I can't help but think about how my hesitance to reply "good" when asked "how was your trip" led to where and who I am today.
