Temple Owls football coach Rod Carey out after going 12-20 over 3 seasons

The school announced Monday that Rod Carey is out after three seasons.

Carey went 12-20 with the Owls. He won eight of his 12 games at Temple.

Ward will serve as interim coach.

Arthur Johnson was hired as the new athletic director at Temple, having previously been an associate athletic director at Texas. Carey came to Temple from Northern Illinois, where he went 52-30 with two conference titles and two division titles.

"Replacing a head coach is never an easy decision," said Johnson. The past two seasons have been difficult with the Pandemic. I wish Rod and his family well in their next chapter and thank Rod for staying committed to our student-athletes.

Bobby Wallace was the first Owls coach to be fired. Al Golden, Steve Addazio, Matt Rhule andGeoff Collins are the next four Temple coaches.
